CIRRUS

CARLTON, Victoria | Wurundjeri Land

The apartment is part of a late Victorian mansion that once housed the Commonwealth Bureau of Meteorology before being divided into private residences. Its soaring ceilings, intricate plasterwork, and expansive windows lend an effortless sense of drama, but the challenge was in making the space feel personal, inviting, and livable within the framework of a rental.

Its owners faced the challenge of dated finishes that dulled the apartment’s charm and potential. Alyssa Owens Design was engaged to elevate the space without renovation—enhancing its character purely through furnishings and decor.

A considered mix of vintage and contemporary furniture, modern art, and sculptural lighting transformed limitations into opportunities. Luxurious rugs and layered linens brought warmth and softness, while bold statement pieces highlighted the home’s striking architectural details.

Nestled in the heart of Carlton, Cirrus is testament to the power of thoughtful design in reviving a heritage rental property.

The result is a home that feels refined yet effortless, storied yet modern. Cirrus is an ode to its past, a reflection of its present, and living proof that rental properties can be elevated to beautiful, livable spaces with intentional design.

A muted, atmospheric palette—anchored by warm neutrals, deep browns, and moments of terracotta and ochre— grounds the space, ensuring that its architectural details remain the true focal point. Thoughtful styling and collected objects add warmth and depth, bringing a quiet sophistication.
